THE SMART EXPORT GAURANTEE (SEG)
To be able to be eligible for the SEG, you must install a renewable electricity-generating system like Solar Panels.
You need a smart meter, as you will have to be able to provide half-hourly export readings.
Your installation and installer should be certified through the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
You will need to use an MCS registered installer like us at MD Electrics Northwest Ltd.
In order to receive the payments through SEG, you will have to apply with a licensee. This is an electricity supplier which offers an export tariff. SEG licensees must provide a tariff if you have installed Solar Panels which meet the criteria through the MCS.
The licensee may be a different supplier from your current energy supplier.
The tariffs can change, it is recommended to check them regularly to make sure you have the best possible tariff.
PAY 0% VAT ON DOMESTIC SOLAR PANEL SYSTEMS UNTIL 2027
Great news for anyone planning on having solar panels fitted on their home as there is currently 0% VAT to pay on the system.
This rate will also last rate until 2027. After this date, the rate will increase to 5% VAT on all domestic solar panels installations.
If you have solar batteries installed as part of a hybrid solar panel system, which includes solar and batteries under the one installation, you won’t have to pay any VAT on them.
However, you will still have to pay 20% VAT on battery only storage systems, if they are installed as a stand-alone system.
Solar batteries have not been included on the government’s list of energy-saving products for 0% VAT.
Like solar panels, solar storage batteries can help reduce your energy bills and lower your carbon emissions by charging your batteries with surplus solar energy to use later.
